Travel Items from the Dollar Store

This is not a post about saving money whenever in order to travel. That will come later. This post is going to be specific to items that I make the trip to the dollar store for whenever I am leaving on a trip. There are some items that I use daily that sometimes are either too big or too expensive to bring with me. I have no problem getting a cheaper version of something in case my luggage gets lost.

Shower Caps

They sell packs up to 8. These come in handy when you need to cover your shoes (so they don’t get your clothes dirty) and whenever you need to skip a “hair wash” day.

Rain Gear

I, personally, bring a poncho in my suitcase because you never know when it will start raining. I prefer a poncho because it saves so much space compared to an umbrella, even the compact ones.

Toothbrush & Toothbrush Holder

I like to bring a separate toothbrush in my suitcase because I don’t want to pack a wet toothbrush right away. It also helps for my procrastination on my return. If I keep my daily toothbrush at home, then I can automatically use it without having to unpack my entire suitcase. I also like to use the long toothbrush holder so it stays completely separate from anything else. I may be weird but I am not putting something in my mouth when it was laying next to dirty clothes or shoes in my suitcase. My alternative is to just slip it into a ziplock bag.

Toiletry/Shower Kit

I will specifically get the kit because you get all of the items for a dollar, rather than each separate item being a dollar. This kit has bottles, small cream containers, and a loofa.

Mesh Bags

I use these as an alternative to packing cubes. I am usually not crunched for space, so I choose to use these instead. These will separate the clothes and double as a hamper when you arrive. It is also beneficial when you are on a beach vacation so you can shake the sand out.

Mini Toiletries

Most of the time, I am using the reusable bottles that are under 3 ounces. However, some things need to be in the original container. The only two items that I will buy mini is toothpaste and deodorant. These are just plain annoying to repackage.

Face Cloths

Depending on your trip, I will either use baby wipes or the compact face towels. I opted to use baby wipes on my long haul flight because I was able to wipe my face without needing to go to the restroom. Baby wipes are considered an “exempt” liquid item in most airports.

Face Mask

I will specifically buy a “hydration” mask for my trip because nothing dries your skin out more than flying. I will use a full face mask and then apply sunscreen and moisturizing lip balm.

Cruise Items

I am an avid cruiser. I have written many posts about cruising like my cruise essentials list. I specifically buy these at the dollar store because I do not need a $30 “Key Card Holder” on the ship when I can get a pack for my family at the dollar store. Along with badge holders, I also will get my bingo dabber, sticky notes, magnets, and any swimming equipment.
